Chris Sacca, the head of special initiatives at Google who led the company’s efforts to open up the wireless spectrum to more competition, is leaving Google to invest in early-stage technology companies.
According to VentureBeat, Mr. Sacca will invest from a small fund for seed investing, though he’s still mulling options on partnerships with other angel investors down the road. He has invested in companies such as Twitter and Photobucket.
In an interview with The Deal.com, Mr. Sacca said he would be targeting “just about anything where companies are focusing on optimized user experiences and solving genuine user problems.”
And in explaining his move to angel investing, Mr. Sacca took aim at tradition V.C.’s. He told The Deal that “general partners are raising funds that are too big to effectively and efficiently deploy.”
“Thus,” he added, “the trend is to overcapitalize companies, inviting unnecessary complexity and limiting liquidity options.”
